Welcome to the next volume of 'Reel Impressions', for those curious what my opinions are on recent movies or television series that I have laid my eyes on and if they are worthy of your time. Below is my first collection of contenders this month as we explore what is offered lately, so see where my impressions land on the latest releases:
GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION (available on Prime) - When Greenland arrived roughly fives years ago, the small-scale disaster film starring Gerard Butler (300) and Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) proved to be a worthy and thrilling gem about an estranged couple trying to come together to protect the life of their young son in the face of world disaster. The first film ended with the family getting to an underground shelter located in Greenland in time before the massive, world-killing meteor struck the planet. The new sequel picks up with the family being forced to emerge from the bunker a few years later and cross the globe to re-locate to the massive crater left behind by the meteor as it has been discovered it retains the environment necessary in order for humanity to thrive and survive. Although it has its moments, the sequel ultimately proves not to be as strongly-written or as tense as its predecessor although there are moments that make the watch worthwhile and to see where the characters ultimately end up.
IT: WELCOME TO DERRY - Season 1 (available on 4K UHD) - For those who missed out on Pennywise the Clown's triumphant return to terrorize on HBO's horror series that expands on Stephen King's original novel and the previous films, they need to pick up this glorious 4K physical media release that contains all the episodes with a crisp digital transfer and bonus content that will satiate devout fans.THE REEL VISION RATING: 📽📽📽 out of 5
Season 1 rewinds the 27-year cycle clock on Pennywise's history in the cursed town of Derry as it explores events that take place in 1962 with a different group of kids encountering the shapeshifter and the U.S. military making the attempt to capture the creature for their own means. Needless to say and knowing where the story goes in the future, things to not go well for the characters in this particular tale. Although the season experiences some logic bumps in the storytelling, it still contains enough horror bite and lore depth exploration to make this a nice companion piece to the feature films.
THE REEL VISION RATING: 📽📽📽📽 out of 5
